Our Goals

Aerospace Industry Issues

Our goals are sky high.

Aerospace is an industry whose influence can be felt on a global scale. As industry members, we are serious players in the worldwide economy. Closer to home, our affect is even stronger.

Currently, we're growing to accommodate the increasing demand for an organization which effectively and constructively represents the concerns and issues of industry members. Washington is home to over 600 aerospace companies, all of which contribute to the positive, forward movement of our state.

The AFA seeks to represent the needs and concerns of every company in the industry, regardless of size. We are committed to pursuing the issues that are important to you both in the legislature and through the initiative process.

We've already begun work on issues such as transportation, health care and tax incentives for every aerospace company, promoting education which serves to strengthen the pool of skilled aerospace workers, and more.

  1. Taxation - Pursue measures supporting a tax structure and tax policies that encourage the growth and long-term health of the industry.
  2. Transportation - Stay committed to funding a beneficial transportation infrastructure. Pursue both state and regional legislation and funding to accomplish this goal.
  3. Training and Education - Pursue funding opportunities for skills development to enhance the aerospace industry workforce.
  4. Energy - Pursue all opportunities to maintain a readily available supply of electrical and natural gas sources of energy for the aerospace industry. Support new sources of energy development, but not as mandates to the industrial sector. Promote new means to transport energy from supplier to user.
  5. Water - Assist efforts to maintain adequate sources of water for industrial purposes while maintaining a fair balance for quality of life issues such as wildlife habitat.
  6. Regulatory / Permitting - Support efforts to streamline the land use permitting process to enable the aerospace industry to adequately plan for expansion or relocation of facilities in Washington State. Work on efforts to coordinate the local, state and federal permitting processes and reduce the decision-making time that currently exists with overlapping permit programs.
  7. Labor - Focus on cost of labor issues and their impacts on aerospace industry competitiveness.
  8. Workers Compensation - Workers Compensation costs should reflect efforts to reduce workplace injuries, assist injured workers in receiving fast and appropriate medical care and include efforts to return the injured worker back to full and appropriate employment.
  9. Healthcare - Find a solution for the high cost of health care in Washington, both through the state and federal government.
  10. Tax Incentives - Extend tax incentives for every aerospace company in the state.
  11. Certifications and Requirements - Simplify the complex certification and requirements process while ensuring more affordable fees.

If there is an issue that affects you that we haven't mentioned, please let us know. Send an email to lindal@afa-wa.com.
